Fort Worth Zoo Conservation Highlights

  • More than 14 animal management directors, curators, nutritionists and veterinarians at the Fort Worth Zoo actively participate in conservation research projects.
  • With nearly $500,000 in conservation and research grants, the Zoo was able to work in 25 countries over the last five years, directly implementing successful programs such as the restoration of endangered West Indian rock iguana populations and the repatriation of bongo to Mount Kenya.

In 2004, the Zoo was honored with the AZA's North American Conservation Award for its work with the Puerto Rican crested toad. The award highlighted the partnerships of more than twenty zoos that have worked to reintroduce captive bred toads into their native habitat.
